Altus specializes in delivering comprehensive engineering, prototyping, testing, and production capabilities, including design, fabrication, assembly, and compliance support to our Government customers. The Sheet-Metal Worker/Fabricator will be responsible for performing non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity on project articles, components, and support structures and equipment.

We are looking for an individual that can use their Sheet-Metal Worker/Fabricator experience to add value and make a significant impact as a Sheet-Metal Worker/Fabricator to NAVAIR for this opportunity.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform as a member of a project work team on project article preparations, modifications, assembly, setup, and teardown using fabrication shop machinery, sheet metal fabrication, and mechanical assembly operations to accomplish project requirements according to approved design tolerances.
  • Perform precision sheet-metal fabrication for modifications to, or manufacturing of, unique equipment, systems, and structures.
  • Perform inspection and acceptance checks at project milestones and upon completion of project assignments to ensure technical adequacy.
  • Fabricate unconventional, one-of-a-kind items, systems, apparatus, and structures in support of experimental project articles.
  • Plan and conduct work from blueprints, drawings, plans, and/or technical publications.
  • Perform maintenance, repair, and updates on specialized equipment and systems unique to WOLF operations.
  • Perform other tasks as required to support customer requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Active U.S. DoD SECRET Security Clearance (Must have interim clearance before start date)
  • Must possess a valid Maryland Driver’s License
  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Formal military or trade school, or equivalent on-the-job training commensurate with duties.
  • Minimum of 3 years hands-on experience in sheet-metal fabrication and shop operations at the journeyman level.
  • Expertise with precision hand tools and measuring instruments.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, plans, and project requirements.
  • Capable of leading a fabrication team on project efforts to meet cost, schedule, and technical specifications as per approved engineering designs.
  • Capable of developing modifications to satisfy project requirements without jeopardizing safety of operations.
  • Ability to work tactfully with professional engineers, technicians, and management staff on all levels of effort.

Work Conditions:

Conditions will vary. Capable of working outdoors and occasionally from elevated work platforms with a fall protection harness and in temperatures ranging from 0-120. The position will include: 45% standing, 20% bending, 15% reaching, 5% sitting, 5% walking, and 10% lifting. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Overtime is a requirement of this position.
